Can you get a job with a Criminal Record?

A job applicant doesn’t have to offer information about their previous criminal convictions if they are not asked to. However, if an employer asks job applicants if they have any previous convictions, they should act in good faith and tell the truth, especially if it is likely that the particular convictions would influence the employer’s decision about hiring them.

Convictions involving violence or dishonesty will always influence this decision. Explaining your criminal background history to a potential employer doesn’t necessarily mean you will be denied the job. Try to emphasize how you’ve changed from when you committed the crime and stay positive. Also, make sure when you have references that emphasise your good character. Finally, be realistic about what kind of crimes can affect your ability to get certain jobs. Its best to be honest and prove how you have moved on and learned from your experience.
